It's not uncommon to need to adjust two or three medicines before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential that parents participate in the titration process and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so that they can let the doctors know whether the medication is helping or ADHD Medication Titration causing adverse reactions.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will be issued an individual prescription for your medication. You will have to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You will be required to attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed, you will be able to schedule follow up appointments with the psychiatrist as appropriate. The appointment will usually be conducted through a zoom video call. However, in certain instances, it could be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again at an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss any treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration program. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage and an examination of any side effects you might be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-toface sessions and PS60 by video or phone consultation. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will also inquire with you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms impact your life, as well as any issues with your relationships that you may be experiencing or other mental health problems that you may be suffering from. This is because ADHD can be an inheritable condition, and it is crucial to look into any family history that could indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.

It is essential that you are honest and open with the clinician during this assessment, as the information they receive will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. We also advise that you check whether your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement which means that once discharged from the clinic you will be referred back to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication

The medication process is an essential aspect of the treatment process for many people looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. Finding prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and lengthy. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs might be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.

Inquiring your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). This means that you can select one that provides an assessment and titration. This can help you reduce time and be more convenient, especially when you are on a tight work schedule.

If you are recommended by this method your chosen doctor will assess you and decide whether or not you require to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that differ by doctor but the most important ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. They will help your physician identify any factors that might suggest you should not take ADHD medications if they are prescribed.

If you are being titrated the medication will consist of stimulants and nonstimulant medications. These will be carefully trialled and monitored to determine the most effective combination for you, taking into consideration any current conditions you suffer from. The titration adhd adults process can be a lengthy process and may require multiple appointments before your dose is stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will be contingent on the type and quantity of medication that you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. Your clinician will check whether you are stable on the medication, note any adverse reactions you have experienced and make any needed adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dose. You will be required to attend an annual review and a regular health check-up that includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.

Some patients may be content with their medication, and do not have to discuss their titration adhd medication process further. However, for those who require further discussion about their titration and treatment plan it is possible that they will be passed back to the private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration adhd meds consultation will be included in their consultation fees and they will receive their medication through a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). It could cost more than an NHS prescription because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
