मईSo You've Bought Robot Vac ... Now What?
Top Rated Robot Vacuums
A best robot vacuum cleaner vacuum will keep floors clean enough to reduce the frequency you need to manually vacuum. Find one that has an easy navigation, can clean corners and stairs, and has a large dust bin that needs emptying only once in a while.
There are models that can mop and charge themselves, which is a feature that is essential for families with children or pets. The top performers in our tests have good ability to overcome obstacles.
1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a good choice for people who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but don't mind manually emptying their robot's dustbin as it gets full.
Both robots are adept at picking up surface dirt on floors and carpets and are able to move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ does not have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or any other top rated robot vacuum-rated robots that we test. It can be stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between surfaces, such as rug and hardwood.
iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including putting away any toys or clutter it may come across. It's also a good idea to keep the bin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station, and it automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning where it started. The battery's life span is approximately an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes three hours to charge.
2. iRobot i7+ Roomba
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model of the flagship line from iRobot and is equipped with the most recent features. It has self-charging and self-navigating, but the most significant feature is its auto-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for regular maintenance.
The Roomba I7+ can better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot with voice or via the app.
The i7+ is faster and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though the dust bin is self-emptying that removes a major source of maintenance and reduces the amount of time spent cleaning.
We were also amazed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room and vacuum the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. When connected to these services, we were able communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for the majority of households and can fit in well next to a coffee table or on shelves where you can wave it around like a magic wand.
The V10 is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy that can provide energy that lasts for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system removes allergens, and then releases clean air back into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to meet the task that is being completed. It quickly switches from handheld to floor vacuum and back.
This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments and a clip for a wand. This is a significant improvement over previous Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. The claims of its marketing that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are misleading, as CR's testing shows. This is an average not an extraordinary time to run a battery-powered cordless vac. It's enough time to clean a typical-sized home however, it's not enough time to reach every spot. (A second time is usually sufficient). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better on low-pile floor carpet.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on the latest model of robot. It was able to remove all kinds of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area multiple times to give an extensive clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach the corners and edges of walls.
Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it isn't equipped with the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. As a result, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't as sturdy, and frequently is power-depleted before making it back to its original location.
The Xiaomi Mi best inexpensive robot vacuum is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 because it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower cost of recurring costs and has more advanced automation capabilities and can better navigate its own. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.
The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries strips that can be controlled using the voice assistant on your smartphone. It's also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and can perform better on floors with low pile and bare.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a name is found on all kinds of home electronics So it's no surprise that they're one of the top robot vacuum and mop manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is packed with cutting-edge onboard tech for navigation and obstacles avoidance.
The app provides a range of customization options for your robotic cleaner. This includes mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to navigate and use as are other Samsung devices.
In our testing, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86% of it. However, it wasn't particularly well at avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks, which was disappointing. It's also a little more expensive than some of the other models we tried and could be a deal-breaker for some buyers.
The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that is accessible via the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot vacuum cleaner on sale's cleaning station. This feature allows you check in on your pets or children while you are away. The filter and the dustbin can be washed for a quick, painless clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with a self-emptying clean station, which helps keep the robot cleaning machine's bin clear and optimizes suction power.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for flooring made of hard wood. The robots come with an extra-wide cleaning path, as well as a dustbin that is 2X bigger than the competitors. This lets them clean the area for longer. They also have two side sweepers that can be used to clean along edges and corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model also includes AutoSense technology, which detects the presence of dirt or debris on the surface and automatically adjusts the power level. It also includes a smart application that lets you view the virtual map, and control the functions and schedules. Plus, you can monitor the status of the vacuum's battery and then return it to its dock to charge at the touch of one button. The app allows you to modify the LEDs on the top of the vacuum so that you can discern where it is focusing or if it has gotten stuck.
The app allows you to manually steer the robot when needed. My living room rug, for instance, has a darkly-colored border which could cause a problem for other robots. However, the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, but it didn't register it as a cliff. The ability to program a cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving benefit.
